[Oskee] Party down Larry!!!

20-12 would mean 12-6 in the Big Ten. There's absolutely zero chance a 12-6 Big Ten team gets left out of the NCAAs. That's a dead solid lock. Even 11-7 is typically good enough, but our bad non-conference losses make that less of a sure thing.

But I agree, 5-3 isn't happening, so it's moot.

So we’re 15-8 right now with 8 games
to go in the conferece. So 20 wins makes us 20-12 (assumes a first round
loss in BTT). With most of those wins coming against lower rated teams
and our bad losses and a finishing record of 5-5. I don’t think
that does it. But then again I don’t think we are going 5-3 in the
next 8 games.

The games we have left are almost all against tournament
caliber teams. If we can't win at least half, we don't deserve to be in the
tournament anyway. I think the magic number is 20 wins. If we get there we'll
have added enough good wins that we should make it.

For the sake of discussion, let's say we
finish 10-8 in the conference and 18-13 overall, but then go on a typical
Illini\BBT run and win two more games to go 20-14. Under that scenario, I
suppose the only way we make it interesting for the selection committee is if
the three regular season wins come at home vs. Ohio State, on the road vs.
Michigan and at home vs. Minnesota. Then the semifinal BTT win would have
to come against somebody like Purdue or Wisconsin .

Would that do it?

OWW!

It was good to see another solid road
performance, even if it was against such a woeful team. We milked about
as many wins as we could out of the lower half of the conference, now comes the
time for this team to decide how good they are going to be against real
competition. If we could by some miracle take all the home games, that
would probably seal a tourney bid -- that would make 11-7 in conference.
I don't see any likely road wins there unless we can get by Michigan , and even the home games are far
from assured. That loss at Northwestern really hurts, and pretty much
eliminates any margin for error. Time to show your stuff and keep this
team focused, Bruce -- I've got confidence you can do it if anyone can!

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the ride -- I gave up on a bid a while back, so
whatever comes in the postseason now is gravy (unless we flame out and miss the
NIT, but we won't go there :-). But I would dearly love to see this team
pull off one major upset before the season is over, regardless of what else
happens.
