They've done this before, but si.com has a feature in its photos section devoted to the best players by jersey number in NFL history.  

It warms my heart, and adds to the 120-year-old mystery that is Illini football, that Illinois is represented about as much as any other school.  I may have missed one or two, but Bobby Mitchell, Red Grange, Dick Butkus, Simeon Rice and Ray Nitschke are on the featured list with folks like Kevin Hardy on the worthy of consideration list.

There were also a lot of Chicago Bears, so this all must be accurate!
