Edit:

That should have said "I think it's very realistic that we DON'T make a bowl game this year"

Sorry

I'm afraid I agree with you Robert. With the difficulty of our schedule, I think it's very realistic to think that we make a bowl game this year.

So, that begs the obvious question...in Zook's 5 years at the helm, we will have had 4 losing, non-bowl game seasons and one trip to the Rose Bowl (which now looks like it was a total fluke). I'm willing to give Zook a pass on year one and two. But we're now on year three with his recruits, his system, and his coaching and we still see the same mistakes (bad turnovers, poor tackling, etc). How do you continue forward with a coach that has essentially produced no results. And I don't count recruiting buzz as results.

I think Zook is a good guy, I think he is a great recruiter. I have very serious doubts about his coaching (especially game day preperation) at this point. I'm not willing to write the whole season off at this point, but it isn't going to be easy to pull the fat out of the fire on this one. With 1-4 looking very possible for a start, that would mean that we would have to finish with a very strong 6-2 (I think we have 13 games this year right?). Right now you'd have to say that games against Minnesota, Northwestern, and Cincy are going to be tough. Unless we can pull an upset against one or two of Penn St, OSU, and MSU, we won't have much margin for error.

I pretty much agree with your points, but if we had tried to throw dowfield, even if Juice's throw were accurate (a crapshoot), the receiver probably would have dropped it - it was that kind of day I love Juice, but his accuracy is wildly inconsistent, and when he misses, he *really* misses. I'd like to think the game would have been different with Benn, but I can't say I'm sure of that.

The defense is clearly inexperienced, especially the secondary - we're gonna get torched deep all year by good passing teams. I would have loved to see a better year for Juice's last, but IMHO we struggle to even be bowl-eligible this year.

I just can't begin to express my complete frustration with our refusal to:

    a) throw the ball downfield (I bet we had no passes longer than 15 yards)
when we supposedly have this amazing group of recievers

    b) our refusal to throw to a tight end

    c) why we don't blitz more

    I'll save d - z for later. :-|

I'm like you...I didn't see this coming at all. Plenty of blame to go
around. Players missed assignments, missed tackles, executed poorly...and
it didn't appear to me that the coaches had them very ready for the game or
    called a particularly good game.

Juice, in spite of his 67% completion percentage, didn't look very sharp
    either.

They have 2 weeks to figure it out...or we're off to a 1-4 start. That will
put immense pressure on the players down the stretch if we're going to make
    a bowl game.
