[Oskee] Sigh

Is Zook EVER going to get it? What on earth was the point putting Eddie in for the entire 3rd quarter? Yeah, OK, so Charest wasn't exactly lighting it up. He also was not making any major mistakes, and it's pretty clear that he's the future, so why do you not just go ahead and let him take his lumps? This constant in-game revolving door at QB cannot possibly be good for his confidence. QBs aren't like golf clubs that you change constantly throughout the game. I'd be OK with putting Eddie in for the occasional series, or heck, even the occasional snap, because he definitely brings a different dimension that Charest doesn't have (yet, at least). But sitting a whole quarter comes off like punishing Charest, which eventually is going to make him averse to taking ANY risks for fear of getting yanked, and a QB who takes no risks is a backup journeyman waiting to happen. Plus Eddie can contribute as a wideout, and you've got huge wasted talent in Benn,
you've got to go with your best pure passer as long as he's not costing you games, and Charest was just not that bad in the first half. Does anyone have any rational explanation for this behavior? I'm not going to even question whether we may have won had Charest played the whole game, because there are way too many unknown to support that assertion. For all I know he came out so well in the 4th because he was mad for sitting out the 3rd, and we'd have been shut out had he started the whole game. But I just don't see how any good can come of this substitution pattern. And that last call was ridiculous IMHO, but we still had a LOT of field yet to go to score again, and very little time. But I sure would have liked to see us get that chance rather than lose on such an obvious (again, my opinion) blown call.
Not that I even really care anymore, but if Juice can go next week, I kinda hope Zook does give him the start. This is his last year -- give him one last shot at a huge upset win, no matter how ridiculously unlikely. As mentioned last week, there's truly nothing to lose at this point. And that shouldn't bother Charest, because Juice was playing well when he got hurt, so by rights he ought to get the job back if he's good enough to go. If Juice pulls off a miracle, let him play the last game of the season. If he falls flat against Cincy, go ahead and give the last start to Charest and start next season prep now. For once, show at least the appearance of a rational plan, not this frantic flailing that comes across as clueless desperation. Is that really too much to ask? (yes, that's rhetorical :-)
