Being that gladly missed the @minny game and PSU games this year, this might have been the most frustrating game I've seen in awhile!

The absence of chet was evident, no on the ball pressure, defense was horrible, got killed on the glass (not chet, but he does reb well for a guard) and the offense sputtered to string more than 2 baskets together.

I swear there were 5-6 times in this game in the second half, we strung 2 baskets together, got within 9, then stopped them 2 even 3 times, only not to score on our end, they come back and quickly get the lead back up to 14+

McCamey and Tisdale just didn't show up, we needed 2 of the three sophs to be ready at least.  Legion was lost out there and not only was missing badly, made horrible decisions.

Amazingly we were 18-0 when Trent scores double figs, there goes that streak! :(  Trent was a stud last night.

If the 3 sophs can step up next year as juniors and be consistent as well, we will not miss a beat and hopefully be a better team.


OK, my ref rant (no it did not cause us to lose the game, but)

-I was wondering if basketball is like hockey with delayed penalties???  late in the game during out run, Davis was called for a foul on the rebound.  I didn't see a thing, Bruce just stared in disbelief (what's new).  I rewound my DVR.  It seems that Davis and the wky player were wresting in the post a bit, well before the shot went up while wky was in their offense, Davis had a hold of the other players jersey, he let go well after a shot was released.  rebound comes to him, foul called, ridiculous.  If there is a foul committed, call it when you see it.  Luckily the wky player missed the FT's (or at least one).

-I was also pretty pissed off, late in the game McCamey had that breakaway and was hammered going up, it was called goaltending, but apparently the ref couldn't multi-task and call both!  one extra point would have cut the lead to 3 at that point instead of 4.

-Seconds later, Trent drives, an obvious blocking foul is not called, he makes the basket driving the baseline, ref swallows the whistle, that would have tied the game (if the mccamey fouls is called) instead it's very late in the game, 2 pt lead w ky ball.

I knew were in for a ling night when I saw that we had "Bad McCamey" out there, missing all shots, turning the ball over.  Oh well, when's FB start??? :)

Yes, disappointing doesn't quite cover it. It really surprised me that we were that ineffective at defending against the open 3. That hadn't happened all year. And I agree with you Kevin that the sophomores were not ready for this game. Mostly I feel bad for Chester. Chester deserved better. Chester's team deserved better.
 
Things to look forward to:
 
Freshmen. Griffey, Richardson, Bertrand, and Paul. At least two of these guys are starters.
Calories. Another 1,386,000 for Mike T between now and November 2.
Improvement: Mike Davis having another off-season like the last one.

Well for 35 minutes the Illini defense sucked every which way.  We allowed way to many easy offensive rebounds and open court lay ups to the 
Hilltoppers.  We really missed Chester's defense and rebounds during the game.

The bright side after sucking and getting down by 17 we mounted a great comeback as the seniors Trent & Calvin played damn great but wasn't enough.

I think our sophomores showed they hadn't played in a NCAA tourney game
Until tonight.

Damn I hate losing a first round game we need to stop this trend but crap it'll
Be a year to avenge this.
