[Oskee] Holy Crap

What a game of peaks and valleys ala Jekyll and Hyde. Not sure what changed but they definitely amped up the defense. As someone here pointed out I hope they (coaches) noticed the improved energy. (Caveat: pressing NU is a lot different than pressing MSU.) Davis and Tisdale should be rebounding more for their height advantage. Last night hopefully built confidence because IU is going to be ready for us. If we can finish strong that last home game against MSU could be for the conf. title. All things considered 20 wins wasn't in my expectations at the start, but now I think a second round game in the NCAA is possible.

I'm a bad fan, I pretty much chalked it up to another loss at the 11-10 min mark! Too bas this was on ESPN, so there's no chance of a replay :(

I'd love to see the comeback and final shot by mccamey. Needless to say, what a surprise when I went to check my email last night and saw the score!

BEAT THE LOOSIERS!

NW definitely helped us out there, using all their timeouts and making some terrible decisions. Plus we got a few calls from the refs, not that they were bad calls, but calls you don't usually get. For example, the tieup at half court and Trent stripping the ball on the drive to the basket. Usually the refs will assume the team that is behind is trying to foul and call that.I don't think we should be using the full court press all the time, but I'd like to see Bruce break it out more often. Maybe during those times we're struggling to score on the road, it seems to energize the team and might be a good "kick start" tool to use.JL

Yeah, there's no doubt we got a little lucky -- Northwestern is not really an offensive powerhouse, and most teams would have scored enough to hang on to that lead. But there were definitely encouraging things here, like the fact that our press towards the end was outstanding -- they had no idea how to handle it, and even when it didn't result in a turnover (which it did, what, 2-3 times?) it threw their offense off track. And the fact that we finally showed some mental toughness outside the confines of Assembly Hall. I was also going to list that we did it basically without Davis, who seemed like a non-factor, but I was very surprised to check the box score and see that he had 10 points -- I guess that last blown layup may have colored my final impression, but that seemed like a quiet performance for him. He also got 6 boards, which was only topped by Chester.

As great as it was to get the win, when we badly needed a road win to stay on track in the race for the conference title, I hope Bruce reams them a new one about the FT shooting -- I thought we'd left that crap behind us. There's simply no excuse for shooting that poorly EVER. That alone will guarantee a loss against a really good team.

On to Indiana! Let's see if we can get a little road streak going!

I L L ! ! ! ! . . . .

That was something, wasn't it? I thought we were meat at 51-37. Do you think Trent should be MVP of the game? I mean he only played like 5 minutes (vbg). . I hope we don't think we can spot any home team 14 points, but it's a nice feeling for the guys to know they are always in the game.

Well the only time you need to lead is the final score.

McCamey drilled a clutch shot 60- 59. The Illini trailed 59 -50

And Trent Meachum scored 8 consecutive points. The Illini missed

9 straight FT's and it should of cost us the game.

The Illini cut the lead to 39 -37 then fell behind 51- 37.

Finally pull out a victory on the road let's go for 2 on Sunday.

GO ILLINI

Kevin
