[Oskee] a win is a win

Our weekend was insanely busy, so it was all I could do to rush through our hoops and football games as well as the Bears game on Tivo, so I can't say I was really paying close attention to any of them. As such, I really don't have much insight to offer, but here's what I got, football first:

Man, I can't think of a more fitting end to such a ridiculous and demoralizing season. I take that back, had that offensive lineman who finished off the 2-point conversion run over to our sideline right afterward and pancaked Zook, that would have been perfect. My answer to where that offense was all season is getting stopped by defenses much better than Fresno St, but that's just a guess. I couldn't help but feel good for Juice and Benn that they got to have some fun and make some big plays to finish the season, regardless of whether we won or not -- it's not like it cost us a bowl bid. And I continue to be very excited about what the future holds for Leshoure (hope I spelled that right). That kid is just amazing. I know he had big holes most of the time in that game, but there have been others where he made stuff happen even when there appeared to be nothing there, and he's got great football speed. With him in there running the ball, it will
help open up the passing game next year, which will make Charest's job easier, assuming the offensive line can protect him long/well enough. I just hope Benn decides to come back one more year to try to put up the numbers and get the postseason recognition we all know he's capable of, but that he couldn't get with Juice sailing balls 10 yards over his head...

I tried to keep my eye on McCamey more and stay objective, but like I said, it was hard rushing through the game. Clearly he's our best option to point right now, as everyone here has said. He still takes too-quick 3s every now and then, sometimes when there's really no shot there, but he's also really improved at getting the ball to others. Being a bigger scoring threat than your average point guard is not a bad thing, because the defense has to key on him, which opens things up for other scoring threats. I think there were a few possessions where Jordan and McCamey were both in there, and Jordan ran the point, which is a nice compromise to try to get Jordan some time with McCamey in there to bail him out, while giving McCamey time at his (IMHO) more natural position of shooting guard. But I have to wonder if Jordan is ever going to be the answer at point, or if the time would be better spent grooming Richardson instead. I still think the best
chance for Jordan to contribute to this team is as our lockdown defender on the perimeter, something you just can't expect out of the freshmen yet, and something his athleticism and hustle make him a good fit for.

All in all, I'm taking no wins for granted -- any win is a good win this season :-). I agree with Todd that the kids will learn more from these close games, even if the opponent doesn't warrant the game being that close.

I had a hangover from having defeat ripped from us on the gridiron but we're toast in the B10 if our offense doesn't get a whole better. Too much standing around, no cutting and we own the softest inside game in the country having two 6'10" post players.
The day will come when athleticsm doesn't correct our inefficiencies. Glad football is over but where has this offense been all season. Talk about a demoralizing way to end a season but I hope it leaves a motivating bitter taste.

Well, that game was closer than it should have been, but at least we won.

For all that Brandon Paul does well (and there’s a bunch) he’s got to learn not to leave his guy so wide open on the arc. I thought our man D looked a little better tonight. Boise State shot lights out for the whole game, otherwise the game wouldn’t have been in doubt. Good clutch free throw shooting down the stretch. These close games are probably more beneficial to the freshmen than the blowouts are, but it’s hard on my blood pressure.

One note…give Bill Cole credit, he’s a much improved defender and got robbed on two calls tonight that should have been charges.

Who else wants to chime in?
