The B10 recruiting was very bad a few years ago, IIRC Wisconsin had the only top 100 recruit in the entire conference during one season. We're seeing the effects at Illinois of course, but other B10 teams have similar problems.
I also think the B10 as a whole didn't do so well when they had to replace the long time coaches from the 80s/90s, i.e the Henson/Knight/Keady era. Some did OK, like MSU and Illinois, others haven't like Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota and Michigan. Too early to tell how the latest round of hires is going to work out.

I say NIT because the Big 10 is now down so far that we will probably
at least go 8-10 and end up with a winning record. (8-5 or 9-4
noncon, probably losing to Mizzou and possibly Miami.) Even 8-10 is
far from sure.
I don't know what it will take to turn the Big 10 trend around...
